Be an Angel

The 10th Anniversary Year Appeal by GTCC

We can hardly believe it’s nearly ten years since a small group of people from Guildford churches got together in 2008 with a vision to serve vulnerable people in our town, whatever their circumstances. The first project, Street Angels has been our ‘signature’ ever since, and has not only won the hearts of people out and about in the night time economy of the town, but has built bridges in collaboration with the Police and emergency services, the Borough Council and civic bodies.

In fact our awards cabinet is bulging and includes the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service! We continue to see tangible evidence of the impact of our work from our first two projects – Street Angels, who serve on the streets every Friday and Saturday nights, and Volunteer Chaplains. But no charity can afford to stand still and we are stepping out in faith to develop a third project, Community Angels.  This has grown from a pilot run by Guildford Borough Council and the Diocese of Guildford, and now is in our hands.  We aim to reach out to support lonely and vulnerable adults in our communities in a new way.  We are excited about the potential of this project and invite your support.

We are hugely proud of what we have achieved so far, but GTCC, like every small charity, is not immune from the pressures and challenges that circumstances and society place upon us. We are constantly aware that we have to balance the demand for what we do (that never diminishes!) against the resources we have.  We are enormously blessed by the large body of volunteers (over 100 at the last count) who give of their time and talents in all of our three projects. In addition, we have a small but dedicated team of three staff who make sure everything happens, oversee training and ensure we always work and deliver to our objectives. Our Board of Trustees comprises 10 committed members, drawn from local churches and the Christian community, and they meet regularly and are responsible for governance of all that we do.

So for our 10th Anniversary year, we are seeking everyone’s support for GTCC and its projects. We need help in three main ways; by gifts of time (volunteering), by financial giving, and by prayer and encouragement. As an individual, as a company, as a local organisation, as a church, or as a school we would love you to Be An Angel and support us this year – and beyond!

In 2018, we need to raise £30,000, on top of our projected income,  among other things to enable us to launch our new Community Angels project. We need your help. So why not get involved in our “Be An Angel” appeal,  celebrating our 10th Anniversary Year and having fun raising funds? More details to follow, but note the following in your diary;
