Angels needed to Ascend Guildford Cathedral Tower
“Be an Angel” Sponsored Relay Tower Climb
Date: Saturday 24 November 2018, 8am – 2pm
Location: Guildford Cathedral, GU2 7UP
Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy is celebrating its tenth anniversary of serving the people of our town through Street Angels, Community Angels and Volunteer Chaplains. Its “Be an Angel” appeal is hoping to raise £30k towards its project work and would love anyone to join them who is able to “Be an Angel” by being a part of their sponsored tower climb team at Guildford Cathedral.
Town Centre Chaplain, Rod Boreham said “I am so grateful that over £10,000 has already been raised towards a £30,000 target. However, there is still some way to go and so we are doing something very practical – a sponsored relay tower climb at Guildford Cathedral, aiming to clock up at least 50,000 steps. This figure represents the number of people the Street Angels have helped in their first 10 years of operation. We would like to invite anyone to join the team and help raise funds to secure our continued work in the town.”
Rod continued “Anyone can join the team, as long as they are physically fit, aged between 8 – 80 years and prepared to raise at least £100 for this special event on Saturday 24 November 2018. We will have great fun, but multiple climbs of the 249 steps to the top of the tower will be a challenge to quite a few of us who are not as young as we used to be! Climbers will be rewarded with the best view in Surrey from the vantage point, an experience normally reserved for the Cathedral’s iconic golden angel and paying visitors to the tower.”
Rod Boreham has been Town Centre Chaplain for 10 years and has recently announced his retirement. The tower climb will be one of his final roles whilst at the helm of this greatly respected charity. During his tenure, the Street Angels have won many awards and accolades, including the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2016.
